Plane was a Hudson Bomber A16-126 which took off from Gasmata airfield to attack Japanese shipping at Gasmata harbour in New Britain. The Hudson was shot down by the Japanese in a remote region of Papua New Guinea. Sixty-six years later in 2008, the wreckage of the plane was found by a missionary Mark Reichman in thick jungle on a ridge inland from the town of Gasmata. Four men were lost with the aircraft.
