Plane was a Lockheed Hudson A16-145 which took off from either Lae or Salamau Airfield bound for Rabaul.[ This is not verified]. The plane disappeared most likely due to a storm or mechanical malfunction and crashed, most probably in the sea between Lae/Salamaua and Rabaul/Kavieng. The wreckage has not been found as yet.
