Plane was a B-25C Mitchell N5-132 of 18 Sqd. which crashed about 3-4 miles east of its home base at McDonald airfield in the Northern Territory. It was thought to be due to engine problems. The whole crew of 8 plus 1 passenger were killed. Sgt Walton was found alive but died later of his injuries.
