AITCHESON, Allan Graham
Previous service AIF. POW Japanese. Plane was a Beaufighter A19-209 on a barge sweep along the east coast of Ceram, finishing at Sebakor Bay on the southern coast of New Guinea. The aircraft experienced difficulty and crashed landed on the Bomberai Peninsula. F/Lt Albert James Moody [Pilot] and F/Sgt Allan Graham Aitcheson [Navigator] survived but were betrayed by local natives and captured by the Japanese. Moody and Aitcheson were tortured and shot after about three months of capture. There was an attempted rescue of the airmen from Idore by Dutch ground troops with RAAF support but the airmen had been dead for some time.
