Plane was Martin Marauder B26 which took off from RAF Shallufa to attack shipping in the harbour at Melos. The plane was hit by enemy fire and crashed. 6 crew were lost. George crewed in MarauderFK 377which was lost in Melos Harbour while on an operational flight on 21st February 1943. Melos Harbour is in the island of Milos, one of the Cyclades Group. The aircraft was one of a second wave of 14 Squadron aircraft to attack. No exact information as to its fate was found, but one Marauder was seen to catch on fire in the harbour and crash into the sea, and another was last seen with its engine on fire. There were two aircraft missing from the operation and it was presumed that FK 377 which failed to return to base was one of the above casualties. It was presumed that the crew had lost their lives at sea.
